The Layton City Emergency Dispatch Center is only one of two such operations in the state and just 26 in the world to be recognized as an accredited dispatch center of excellence.
The National/International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch groups singled out Layton for the honor at its Aug. 25 meeting. The award will officially be presented to city officials Sept. 3 in Park City at an international meeting.To obtain the award, Layton's dispatch center had to demonstrate consistent, superior patient care and efficient resource utilization.
Layton paramedic Doug Robison reviews a random sampling of medical calls each month and grades them. He also provides feedback and recommends improvements.
