A US WEST van was burglarized sometime Friday evening, and police are not ruling out the possibility the act was strike-related.
"It is mighty curious to us at the sheriff's office that this stuff is taken at this time," said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Stephen Chard. "But we want to look at every angle. It could be strike-related, or it could be just one of a roving bunch of bandits we've got around the valley."The van, which was assigned to an upper management US WEST official during the strike, was parked at the company's central office at 3400 E. Danish Road (8890 South) overnight, Chard said. When the employee went out to the van Saturday morning, he found the driver's side window broken and about $15,000 worth of equipment taken, Chard said.
