Marc Lewis doubled and scored on A.J. Pierzynski's groundout to break a tie and Chris Latham then homered to give Salt Lake an 8-6 11-inning victory over Iowa in the Pacific Coast League Wednesday.
Jason Hardtke hit two home runs and Robin Jennings added another homer and two doubles for Iowa. Scott Stahoviak had a three-run homer for the Buzz.Salt Lake pitcher and Ankeny, Iowa, native Benj Sampson was roughed up in his homecoming for the Buzz. Sampson went four and one-third innings and allowed six runs on seven hits, including the three homers, while striking out five. Reliever Jeff Harris (7-0) earned the victory, while Kevin Ohme was credited for his sixth save.
Marc Pisciotta (3-3) gave up both runs in the 11th inning to collect the loss for the Cubs.
GAME NOTES: The Minnesota Twins Wednesday recalled Buzz pitcher Travis Baptist. The left-hander replaces Mike Morgan, who was traded to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later and cash considerations on Tuesday. Baptist, 26, was 0-1 (7.43 ERA) in five relief appearances earlier this season for the Twins. He went 8-5 (3.12 ERA) in 21 starts for Salt Lake.
