Our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Olsen Halverson, closed her baby blue eyes for the last time on August 21, 1998, leaving behind many who loved and adored her so very much.
Born on February 28, 1907, Mary grew up on a farm in Mayfield, then graduated from BYU.She single-handedly raised five devoted children, Gail (Fern), Mark (Marge), Marilyn (Wally), Alena, and Kathleen. A loving and generous soul, she was the glue of an enormous family. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was a proud survivor. She worked as a teacher, seamstress and bookkeeper and refused to retire until she was 82 years old. Her passion was traveling all over the world. Too stubborn to be taken by the cancer, strokes, or other diseases that plagued her, Mary said goodnight for the last time on her own terms-at home, during her sleep at the age of 91.
Mom, Grams, we want to thank you for all of the love that you gave as well as taught; the wisdom that you shared, the importance of family, your incredible sense of humor, and most of all, the unconditional love you gave to all of us. Thank you for all of those precious memories and stories that you have given us to pass down to the more than four generations that now survive you. You watched over us, laughed with us, worried about us, comforted us, and loved us. The memory of you and your love is forever embedded in our minds, brazen on our hearts, and alive in our souls. Goodnight, sweet Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28th at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East at 2 p.m. Friends and loved ones may call one hour prior to services.
