An outbreak of more than 1,600 influenza and pneumonia cases in Alaska and the Yukon territory prompted federal health officials to issue a travel advisory Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that people who are 65 years of age and older or who have chronic medical conditions should consult with their physicians before traveling to the region."There have been well over 1,600 cases identified of acute respiratory infection," said Dr. Martin Cetron of the CDC's National Center for Infectious Diseases.
