A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured while riding his bicycle against traffic Thursday night.
Brandon Montoya, 14, had crossed Highland Drive and was going northbound on the southbound lane near 4625 South about 9:30 p.m. when a car driven by Jesse Snow, 16, struck him, said Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy Chad Soffe. The car in front of Snow's had to swerve around Montoya, almost hitting him, and it is possible Snow did not see him coming, Soffe said.Montoya was struck by the corner of Snow's car, flew over the car and landed on a lawn next to the road, Soffe said. He was taken by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center with broken legs and a possibly fractured hip.
There was a street light across from where Montoya was struck. However, Montoya's bike did not have a night light and he was not wearing a helmet, Soffe said.
