Nigeria's military leader Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar has announced a new 31-member Cabinet to replace the one he dissolved last month.

The appointees will be sworn in and given portfolios Saturday, according to a statement issued Thursday by Abubakar's press secretary.Noticeably absent from the list were three influential ministers from the Cabinet of his predecessor, dictator Gen. Sani Abacha: Foreign Affairs Minister Chief Tom Ikimi, Finance Minister Anthony Ani, and Petroleum Resources Minister Dan Etete.

The new Cabinet includes nine ministers who served in the previous Cabinet. Six of the new appointees are military officers.

Abubakar came to power in early June after the sudden death of Abacha, whose five-year dictatorship left Nigeria economically crippled and diplomatically isolated.
