Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Gil (Gib) Thompson, age 72, passed away on August 20, 1998 at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center after an extended illness of Lung Disease and Diabetes.

Born October 11, 1925 in Saint Anthony, Idaho, to Richard F. and Nettie (Spidel) Thompson. He married Yvonne Powell, October 21, 1945; they later divorced. Then married Catherine Horkan, April 7, 1960, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Gilbert served his country during World War II with the United States Navy. He was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad for 32 years, retiring in April 1985. Gilbert enjoyed fishing and camping and was an avid bowler for many years. He was a member of the LDS Church. Gilbert was a caring and loving person, always going the extra mile for someone in need. He will be deeply missed, "DAD WE ALL LOVE YOU!"Survived by his loving wife, Catherine; daughters, Carolyn (Lou) Barrett, Salt Lake City, UT; Sherri (Dennis) Fernelius, West Bountiful, UT; Bonnie (James) Sorbello, Las Vegas, NV; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Naomi) Thompson, St. Anthony, ID; Merlin (LaWanna) Thompson, West Jordan, UT; and one sister, Wanda Hall, Rexburg, ID. Preceded in death by his son, Ricky Gilbert; parents; three brothers, Richard, Morris, and Wayne; three sisters, Isadora Howells, Melba Ester, Beth Willesen.

Graveside service at 12 noon at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 E. 7800 So. on Saturday, August 22, 1998. Friends and family may call Saturday 10-11:45 prior to service at Mountain View. Interment at Mountain View.
