A former Green Beret colonel leading a volunteer search for clinic bombing suspect Eric Rudolph pledged to keep the fugitive out of the FBI's hands if he surrenders.

"If he turns himself in, we will allow the sheriff in the appropriate county to take possession of Eric Rudolph," James "Bo" Gritz said Tuesday on his radio show on the Talk America Radio Network.Rudolph is accused in a Jan. 29 clinic bombing in Birmingham, Ala., that killed an off-duty police officer and severely wounded a nurse. Rudolph also is wanted for questioning in 1996 Olympic blast and two other bombings in Georgia.
