For the next month, every time you go grocery shopping, you'll have the opportunity to give to "Jerry's Kids" and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
By buying items marked with a yellow "Aisles of Smiles" sign, a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to MDA. Every major grocery chain in the state will participate in the fund-raiser.Aisles of Smiles organizers hope to raise $150,000 during this year's event, which runs through Sept. 7. In 1997, its inaugural year, the program raised $59,000.
Proceeds will go to three main areas: to benefit a University of Utah clinic for diagnosis and follow-up care, send Utah kids with neuromuscular disease to MDA's summer camp and research efforts at the U. that focus on gene therapy research and cutting-edge treatments.
MDA serves more than 1,000 families along the Wasatch Front.
