Hedwig Mathilda Rabiger Maass (age 91) passed away August 12, 1998 of causes incident to age.

She was born December 22, 1906 at Seifersdorf, Sorau, Germany. She emigrated to the United States with her family at the age of two. She lived the majority of her life in the Poplar Grove area of Salt Lake City. She married Gerhard Frederick Maass on November 27, 1926. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 3, 1928. They spent more than 55 years together before his death on January 2, 1982.Heddy was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many positions including Young Women's leader and Ward Relief Society President. She retired as a full time employee of the LDS Church Relief Society at the age of 65. After her retirement, she continued to give service to Elder Delbert L. Stapley's family by helping take care of his invalid wife. She later served a genealogical extraction mission for the church. Recently she lived at Highland Cove Retirement Center and the Highland Cove Health Care facility where she was at the time of her passing. The family wishes to express their appreciation to both facilities for their kind care and keeping.

She is survived by her sister, Frieda Ann Rabiger; son, Gerald M. (Jerry) Maass (Marilyn), of Salt Lake City; and daughter, Jeannette (Jan) Barlow (David), of Danville, California; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, June Ellen Scott; sister, Ann M. Handy; brother, Edward E. Rabiger.

Funeral service will be held Monday, August 17, 1998 in the Poplar Grove Ward 1401 West 700 South at 12 noon. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 16, 1998 at the Cannon Mortuary 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) from 6-8 p.m. and at the ward one hour before the service. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
