Renewing Republican promises to save Social Security, Rep. Rick White vowed Saturday that the system, "the cornerstone of our commitment to the future," will be protected from government programs that want to use its funds.

"An eternal truth of Washington, D.C., is that if you leave a dollar on the table, a dozen hands will reach for it," said White, R-Wash. "We're taking your Social Security dollars off the table."In the weekly GOP radio address, White credited the Republican-run Congress for balancing the budget, reforming welfare and saving Medicare. Now, he said, the focus will turn to protecting Social Security.
