Nissan Motor Corp. on Friday voluntarily recalled more than half a million Sentra and 200SX autos built over the past four years because of a faulty joint that can cause windshield wipers to fail.

The recall applies to 524,000 vehicles, including all Sentras built in 1995, 1996 and 1997, as well as some 1998 models.Owners of affected Sentra and 200SX cars will be notified by mail by their Nissan dealers to schedule free repairs to the wiper arms.
