Dean H. Reese Hansen and the faculty of Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School have announced the appointment of J. Clifton Fleming to the Ernest L. Wilkinson Chair at the law school.
The chair was formerly occupied by Edward L. Kimball, who is now an emeritus professor of law at BYU.Fleming, a specialist in taxation law and a member of the BYU faculty since 1974, was appointed associate dean for academic affairs in 1987. A BYU alumnus, Fleming received his law degree with honors from George Washington School of Law in 1967. He practiced law in Seattle before beginning his academic career at the University of Puget Sound Law School in 1973.
In addition to serving as a professor in residence at the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service, Fleming has been a Fulbright professor at the University of Nairobi and a visiting professor at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.
He is widely published on taxation issues, has served twice as a member of the American Law Institute Tax Advisory Group and as a member, vice chair and chair of the American Bar Association's Tax Section Committee on Teaching Taxation.
