Bowman's Grocery store has given the city's recreation department a check for $2,786 - proceeds from the July 24th fund-raising breakfast it sponsored.

The annual event, in its 13th year, has now given the recreation department a total of $22,700.This year's event served some 1,185 people. Dick Bowman said it has grown from just being a Kays-ville event to an area holiday activity.

City recreation director Mike Gray said the money goes toward some special department need each year. This time it will help revamp the city's aging football equipment. Some of the money will also go toward a scholarship fund, letting needy kids play city sports without paying.

Bowman's supplies food for the breakfast each year, while city leaders and volunteers cook and serve it.
