Safety tests have begun at Deer Creek Dam, one of the last Bureau of Reclamation dams in Utah to undergo the tests.

Drilling at the base of the dam began Wednesday and will continue for the next 10 days to determine if there is any underlying material that might liquefy during a major earthquake.Bruce Barrett, director of BOR's Utah Projects Office, said that at least 27 BOR dams in Utah have been tested and at least three fixed.

This will be the second time Deer Creek has been tested for safety, the first since 1992.
