Don't be surprised to see a new, locally produced magazine sneaking around Utah Valley.
The first edition of Sneakers, a bimonthly family resource guide, recently hit the streets. In the magazine, publisher Bridgette Jordan of Orem provides information about local activities, classes, services, recreation and entertainment for children.Parents don't have the time to track all that down on their own, Jordan said. And even though the magazine can't cover everything, she and editor Sharon Ciena are trying to make it as comprehensive as possible.
Each issue will include seasonal stories and ideas, book reviews, family resources and coupons. Articles about health, crafts, contests and food also will part of the magazine, she said.
A community resource directory lists telephone numbers for a variety of local agencies ranging from adoption services to crime prevention to transportation.
Jordan said the magazine will have a definite slant to meet the needs of Utah County families. It also will have stories from local columnists and writers as well as articles by health-care professionals such as dentists and doctors.
The cover of each issue will feature a photograph of a local child.
Sneakers will be available free at libraries, recreation centers, schools and local business. Subscriptions also are available for $14.95 a year for six issues. Sneakers can be reached at 802-0761.
