Damage to a scrap-metal business from a Monday midday fire will reach $18,700, an insurance claims adjuster said Tuesday.

Utah County Fire Marshal Tom Wroe offered a lower estimate after the blaze at Ainge Railroad Ties, 1099 E. 5900 South, was doused by several local agencies.Some 1,400 old railroad ties and 300 tires were scorched in the blaze.

The fire, which was started by an oxygen-acetylene torch, also spread to grass and weeds on adjacent property. Flames caused $3,000 damage to a nearby building.
