A South Jordan man was hospitalized and remained in critical condition Wednesday morning at the Flagstaff Medical Center after he was buried in a collapsed sand cave.

A National Park Service press release said Michael Harline, 23, was at the back end of Moki Canyon at Lake Powell digging in a large sand cave Monday evening when the sand collapsed and buried him.Harline was trapped in the cave for 20 minutes before nearby boaters and members of a Boy Scout troop were able to dig him out.

Two California firemen and a trauma nurse who were camped nearby started CPR efore he was eventually ferried by boat to the Halls Crossing Marina and then flown to the Flagstaff hospital.
