An Army Blackhawk helicopter lifts off Tuesday at dawn from Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., with the Space Maneuver Vehicle (SMV) slung below it. The SMV was dropped from the helicopter and glided in for a landing in the vehicle's first test flight. The unmanned craft used global positioning satellites to guide it to the runway and missed the runway's center line by just 3 feet. Boeing is developing the SMV for the Air Force as a relatively low-cost, reusable space craft. Both the Air Force and Boeing considered the test flight a success.
