Paddington Bear will celebrate his 40th birthday at the McCurdy Doll Museum, 246 N. 100 East, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.

In 1958 English writer Michael Bond introduced "A Bear Called Paddington," to the world. The character became famous for his adventures in England and his Wellington boots.Recently, Queen Elizabeth II decorated Bond with the Order of the British Empire, a high honor from the British Parliament, in recognition of Paddington's fame. His stories have been translated into more than 20 languages.

During the celebration, Paddington's story will be told by Mark Pulham, a teacher at Westmore Elementary School and story-teller at the Orem City Library. Following the story there will be a birthday party in the Secret Garden.

Reservations are necessary and may be made during the museum's business hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children under 12.
