Stop eating so much salt and you'll live longer and feel better - or at least your odds will improve - says a panel of doctors who study hypertension.

The panel, put together by the Columbia School of Public Health in New York, said all people should eat less salt, not just those who have high blood pressure."The panel agreed that all people are likely to benefit from moderating their daily sodium intake," the panel said. "People with high blood pressure who are already taking blood pressure medicines may experience a further blood pressure reduction if they limit dietary salt, but . . . the panel felt that all Americans should be careful about salt intake to help avoid the onset of high blood pressure."
