A Sugar House man has pleaded guilty in connection with the kidnap and rape of a West Valley business employee in March.

Travis Cane Wood, 21, pleaded guilty to aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, during a 3rd District Court hearing last week. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed additional charges of aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony; and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and failure to respond to officer's signal to stop, third-degree felonies.Wood could be ordered to spend life in prison at his sentencing, scheduled for Sept. 4.

According to the charges, a woman told police that on March 11 she left her office at the Holiday Inn Reservations center, 1275 W. 2240 South, to get something from her car in the parking lot. While she was in the car, Wood approached her, pointed a gun at her and ordered her to drive him someplace.

After driving to several areas, Wood directed the woman to a secluded Utah County area, where he raped her, the charges state. Afterwards, the two drove back to the parking lot and the woman contacted police.

Moments later, Wood led officers on a brief high-speed chase before they took him into custody.
