Some people try to hide from the police. One man tried to play hide-and-seek with them.

John Hoffey, sought on several charges, allegedly called state police from a pay phone Thursday and dared them to find him, saying "You can't catch me."But he quickly learned they could.

Later that day, when Hoffey drove up to the residence where he was staying, he found an officer waiting in his bushes.

State police received information that Hoffey was staying there and had assigned trooper John Gaba to watch the house that day.

"He was sure surprised when I walked up to the car and grabbed him when he got home," Gaba said.

Hoffey, 28, was wanted by Kingston police on felony charges of reckless endangerment and several criminal and traffic misdemeanors.
