William Baird Martin, 76, Returned to our Heavenly Father, August 7, 1998.

Bill was born in Ogden, Utah on January 24, 1922, to Samuel and Sarah Cameron Martin. He married Jeanne Allen in San Diego, CA on July 3, 1943; marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended Utah State University and later graduated from Idaho State School of Pharmacy. He later owned and operated Garfield Drug, Martin Drug and M & M Pharmacy. He later changed careers and became Sr. Vice President of Tracy Collins Bank and Washington Savings Bank.Bill was active in his community service by being a member of the Granite School Board for eight years. He also served as President of the Salt Lake Kiwanis Club and a Member of the Magna Senior Center Advisory Council. Bill served his country during World War II in the Italy campaign and distinguished himself by receiving the Distinguished Service Cross. He retired from the army reserves as a Lt. Col.

Bill was very active in the LDS Church. He served as Bishop of the Garfield 2nd Ward. Also served as President of the Oquirrh Stake, Magna Central Stake and the Magna East Stake. He served at Welfare Square on an advisory board for over 10 years. He was called to be a Regional Representative and also a Sealer in the Jordan River Temple and Salt Lake Temple. Both he and his wife served as Mission President of the Ireland Dublin Mission from 1989 to 1992.

He is survived by his wife; children: Cheryl Ann (Frank) Bezzant, Katherine C. (Richard) Eldredge, Jay S. (Paula) Martin; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 11, 1998 1 p.m. in the Magna Central Stake, 8181 W. 3320 So. Friends may call Monday, 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 11 to 12:30 at the church. Services will be under the direction of Peel Funeral Home. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
