A sentencing date has been set for a Riverton man who pleaded guilty to reduced charges in connection with the sexual abuse of 12 young girls now between the ages of 7 and 14.

Larry Eugene Griffith, 54, who in June pleaded guilty to eight counts of sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, has been scheduled for sentencing Aug. 21 before 3rd District Judge William Thorne.Griffith had been originally charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; attempted sexual abuse of a child, a third-degree felony; and six counts of dealing in harmful material to a minor, a third-degree felony. Prosecutors reduced the charges in exchange for his plea.

The eight second-degree felonies are punishable by up to 15 years in prison each.

According to the charges, the incidents occurred either in Griffith's home or the victims' homes between 1993 and 1997. Prosecutors say Griffith fondled some of the girls and in some cases showed them pornographic videos.

Griffith, who is free on bond, has been ordered to have no contact with any of the victims or any person under 18, except family members. Those contacts must be in the presence of another adult.
