Police searched Saturday for three teenage girls who are accused of robbing a bank in a crime apparently modeled after a holdup in a movie about a gang of women robbers.
Officers arrested and jailed Virginia Marie Kay, 33, and Amber Lynn Wood, 20, both of Aberdeen, and were seeking three girls - one 14-year-old and two 15-year-olds - for the July 31 robbery of a bank in West Olympia. The group may have patterned the armed robbery after the movie "Set It Off," Detective Russ Geis said.
Officers searched an Aberdeen home Friday and uncovered evidence linking all five females to each other and to the robbery, said police Lt. Tor Bjornstad.
Four armed persons walked into the bank and demanded money from tellers. Olympia police said a fifth person may have stood lookout.
"They walked fast, they all had a job to do and they were very organized," Geis said.
The heist lasted just 53 seconds, with the ringleader calling out the time in five-second intervals.
