An evening of traditional Indian classical ballet will be presented at the Alice Sheets Marriott Center for Dance on the University of Utah campus Monday, Aug. 10.

Curtain is 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and $10 at India Unlimited on Foothill Drive. Tickets will also be available at the door.The ballet "Ardha Nariswaram" will be performed in the Kuchipudi dance tradition by the Grand Indian Classical Ballet. Kuchipudi is a 13th-century dance/drama form that uses traditional Indian music, flowing and fluid movements and rich, colorful costumes.

Company director Vempati Chinna Satyam has helped Kuchipudi become recognized internationally.

"Ardha Nariswaram" is the story of a king who wants to bring his deceased loved ones back to life. He is instructed to use the waters of the river goddess Ganga to perform the task, but only Shiva can control the river's flow.
