A new first-class postage stamp issued to raise money for breast cancer research will give everyday people a chance to "fund the fight," Sen. Lauch Faircloth said Saturday in the Republican Party's weekly radio address.

Issued this month, the stamp costs 40 cents - 8 cents above the current 32-cent price. But the extra money will fund research into a cure for the disease, which is expected to claim the lives of 44,000 women this year, the North Carolina Republican said."It's a chance for everyday, working families to fund the fight - and find a cure for breast cancer," said Faircloth, who is up for re-election in November.

Faircloth was a co-sponsor of legislation signed last August by President Clinton that directed the U.S. Postal Service to issue the special fund-raising stamp.
