K.C. FIRES V.P: Larry Doughty, the Kansas City Royals' vice president of player personnel, was fired on Friday.

"We had not planned to renew Larry's contract," said Herk Robinson, the Royals executive vice president and general manager. "And as a result, we have relieved him of his duties so he can pursue other interests."Doughty said Friday afternoon that he was told by Robinson on Wednesday about his dismissal.

Doughty, whose contract was set to expire at the end of this season, joined the Royals after the 1993 season and worked as a special assignment scout in 1994 and 1995 before being named director of player personnel. He was promoted to vice president of player personnel in February 1997.

ANGELS OBTAIN JUDEN: The Anaheim Angels acquired pitcher Jeff Juden from Milwaukee for a player to be determined later and an undisclosed amount of cash Friday.

Juden has a 7-11 record with a 5.53 ERA and two complete games in 27 starts this season. The right-hander has allowed 66 walks with a team-high 109 strikeouts.

OGEA ON DL: The Cleveland Indians put pitcher Chad Ogea on the 15-day disabled list Friday, his third stint on the injured list this season.

Ogea has tendinitis in the middle finger of his throwing hand. He already has missed 10 weeks with injuries, after knee surgery during spring training and a strained right pectoral muscle in mid-June.

The Indians also purchased the contract of infielder Jeff Manto from Buffalo on Friday and sent infielder-outfielder Richie Sexson to the same team.
