Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Thelma Pearl Todd Phipps passed away Wednesday, August 5, 1998 at home with her family. She was 89 years old.
She was born in Osgood, Missouri, August 25, 1908, the oldest of 10 children, to Frank and Leeta Rhoades Todd. She was married to Ralph M. Phipps, September 17, 1927 in Chillicothe, Missouri. They moved to Bingham Canyon, Utah, and lived there for a number of years. They spent several years in Missouri, and she returned to Sandy, Utah upon Ralph's death on January 13, 1978. She was a member of the Grand River Garden Club; Galt Town and Country Garden Club; Galt Homemakers; Black Oak Willing Workers Extension Club; Ladies Church Circle; Chapter CS-PEO in Missouri; Chapter AE-PEO in Sandy, Utah; Ladies Homemaker; and Agriculture extension councils; she also worked as an election judge. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church and also attended the Murray Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a faithful member of the Sandy Senior Citizens Center. She taught their crochet class for a number of years and was a member of their advisory council and RSVP Volunteer.Her dearest hobby was growing flowers. She had over 300 named iris and won countless blue ribbons on her arrangements at flower shows.
Thelma is survived by her children, Carol (Victor) Ingraham, West Jordan, Utah; Clara Mae (Bill) Roach, West Jordan; Utah; Ralph (Patsy) Phipps, Jr., Independence, Missouri; and Larry Phipps, Grant City, Missouri. She has 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wade Todd, West Jordan, Utah; sisters, Phyllis Mason, Medford, Oregon; Gail Rudy, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Joan Hollon, Milan, Missouri. She was preceded in death by husband; parents; two brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be held Monday, August 10, 1998, 7 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, where friends may call one hour prior to service. Graveside service will be held at Union Grove Cemetery, Osgood, Missouri, Thursday, August 13th at 2 p.m., where she will be laid to rest by her husband of 50 years.
