Ira Jay Neeley, age 82, passed away August 4, 1998 in Salt Lake City, from complications of congestive heart failure.
Born April 18, 1916 in Honeyville, Utah, to Ira Jonathan and Margaret Loveland Neeley. He married Renee Mickelson on August 5, 1938. Jay graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City. Jay joined the CCC Camp program and worked on the reclamation projects in the Uinta Basin. It was there he met and courted Renee. Jay became a member of the Operating Engineers, Local #3. He later worked as business agent and later became District Representative of the State of Utah, Operating Engineers, Local #3. Jay retired from the International Union of the Operating Engineers, Western States Representative.Survived by his wife, Renee; two sons and one daughter, Jay Michael Neeley (Jayne), Robert James Neeley (Linda), both of Salt Lake City; Janee Christine Minnick (Robert), Atlanta, GA; nine grandchildren; one sister, Iris Grundvig; and one brother, Donald C. Neeley (Marge). Preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and one brother.
Funeral service Friday, August 7, at 10 a.m. at the Butler Hill Chapel, 2695 East Fort Union Blvd (7000 S). Friends may call Thursday evening at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary/Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, one hour prior to service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
