Cigna Health Care of Utah will no longer be an option for small group medical insurance in the state.
Utah Insurance Commissioner Merwin Stewart said Monday the company has given its 180-day notice to no longer provide coverage for 24 small groups. The groups, which have 50 or fewer people in them, have 180 days to find another insurance provider. In all, 780 people will be affected.Cigna, one of the nation's largest insurance companies, was losing money in the small group market, Stewart said. Cigna will continue to provide coverage for large groups, which total 31,000 people in Utah.
