A hiker from Utah who had been lost for two days near Hatcher Pass in the Talkeetna Mountains was found hungry but in good condition.

Todd Ellis, 24, was spotted and picked up by the crew of an Alaska State Trooper helicopter Monday night.Ellis said he broke a couple of cardinal rules for hiking in Alaska's back country.

"I changed my route, without letting anybody know what I was doing, and I went without a map," Ellis said Monday night from the Motherlode Lodge, on the road up to Hatcher Pass.

Take a map, file a trip plan, and stick to it, Ellis said.
