As the sun drops below the western horizon tonight, front porch lights will pop on nationwide and people will congregate in their neigborhoods for the 15th annual National Night Out Against Crime.

The event is designed to encourage neighbors to get to know each other and thereby increase safety and awareness of criminal activity in neighborhoods.Activities range from small picnics with only a few families to citywide events at malls and parks with parades, games and live music.

Around the Salt Lake Valley, activities are scheduled in a number of communities, including Sandy, South Salt Lake and West Valley City. Additionally, 16 different neighborhoods in Salt Lake County have activities planned, including those in East Millcreek (2540 E. 3370 South), Azure Meadows Park (6000 S. 3885 West), Bella Vista Elementary School (2134 E. Fort Union Blvd.), Cherry Hill Apartments (2215 E. 3300 South), Cottonwood Grove Condos (1128 E. 6600 South), Elmhill Circle (6645 S. 1450 West) and at the Willow Creek Drive clubhouse.
