Several Wasatch Front governments will get more than $7 million in U.S. Housing and Urban Development grants to help ease housing woes.
Salt Lake County and West Valley City were awarded $4.6 million and $1.1 million grants, respectively.Taylorsville received $464,000, and Sandy and West Jordan got $559,000 and $459,000, respectively.
"These funds will go toward community-based solutions to the housing and economic development challenges (these communities) face," said HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo. "We are funding a comprehensive strategy to create jobs and affordable housing and help homeless people become self-sufficient."
Public facilities and improvements, public services, homeownership, housing rehabilitation and neighborhood revitalization are the housing and community development efforts to be funded by the grants.
