The City Council has granted final approval to the Clinton Towne Center commercial subdivision, opening the way for the city's first-ever major grocery store and retail center.
The business development will be on the northwest corner of 1800 North and 2000 West. Albertsons will be the anchor store and also plans on developing its own gas station at the front of the property. The council has also approved 11 additional commercial building lots for Clinton Towne Center.
According to City Manager Dennis Cluff, some of those 11 lots could be combined. He said the city still doesn't have the names of any of the other businesses but does know what type stores will be included.
Besides Albertsons, there will be a bank, national video store and a national pizza chain.
Clinton currently lacks major businesses, and its only food and gasoline outlet is Maverik.
