Barbara Haake Petersen, 76, died July 29, 1998 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a brief illness.
She was born February 28, 1922, in Madison, Wisconsin, the only child of William John and Alma Eleanor Gross Haake. She graduated in February 1944 from the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin, with a major degree in Speech Therapy, and minor degrees in French and English.Barbara married Max Stewart Petersen on February 19, 1944 in Madison, Wisconsin. Max preceded her in death on January 24, 1991.
Barbara is survived by her four children: Barbara Sue Shipley and her husband J. Arthur, James Stewart Petersen and his wife Kathi, Kristen Louise Puckett and her husband James; and Peggy Marie Woodruff and her husband Mark; also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Barbara will be greatly missed by many friends as well as her family. She is remembered for her service to and acceptance of people in all walks of life; for unselfish and quietly-performed acts of kindness to those who crossed her path. Our Mothers wish is for everyone to know what good friends she had and how much she appreciated her family, neighbors, and church friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, August 3, 1998 in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and on Monday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to service. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crossroads Urban Center, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
