Two Salt Lake men were stabbed about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when a fight ensued after some uninvited guests crashed a birthday party.

Both victims had to be flown to local hospitals by medical helicopter. Ryan McKissick, 22, was stabbed two times in the back and is listed in stable condition at University Hospital. Patrick Howell, 21, was stabbed four times in the back but was treated and released from LDS Hospital on Wednesday.Around 50 people in their late teens to early 20s attended the 18th birthday party for a girl at 1634 E. 7200 South, where seven unwanted guests showed up. The girl said she didn't recognize any of the ragged-looking intruders, and a fight began when they were asked to leave.

After the stabbings, all seven suspects fled on foot, Salt Lake County deputy sheriff Peggy Faulkner said. An off-duty Salt Lake City police officer stopped five of them around the corner from the house. A deputy sheriff cornered the other two suspects near an apartment complex at 1550 E. 7200 South, Faulkner said.

All seven were being questioned by police Wednesday. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Neighbors contacted by the Deseret News said the residence is a frequent hangout for young people, but no large parties had been held in several months. One man, who lives across the street, said it sounded like the party was breaking up about the time the incident occurred. The next thing he said he heard were sirens and the medical helicopter.

The girl's car was stolen in Sandy a day before the stabbing. Family members are asking police to look into whether the two incidents are connected.
