A 7-year-old boy died Thursday when the all-terrain vehicle he was riding with his brother flipped near his home at High Country Estates.
The boy's 12-year-old brother is being treated at Jordan Valley Hospital for minor bruises and scrapes, Lt. Steven Chard of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department said.Around 8:10 a.m. Thursday, the two boys were riding to the bus stop down a steep slope near 7675 W. High Country Circle (13035 South) when the ATV went out of control, veered to the left of the trail and rolled.
The 12-year-old ran back and notified another brother, who then carried the child home. The 7-year-old boy was dead when crews arrived.
Neither of the riders were wearing helmets, and the 7-year-old suffered massive head injuries, Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Bill Brass said.
