Now that Congress is using stealth tactics to attack our environment, the public must act to ensure that our children have clean water to drink and clean air to breathe.

One way to do this is to urge Congress to support Rep. Henry Waxman's (D-Calif.) Defense of the Environment amendment. This amendment is attached to the VA/HUD Appropriations bill and would effectively strip away the nasty anti-environmental riders that are being loaded onto federal budget bills. Congress' "stealth" attacks are no longer going unnoticed. The Waxman amendment would stop a host of deadly riders that attack our clean air, clean water and national park protections. Parks are an intricate part of Utah's economical well being. It's time to stop these back-door attacks. I strongly urge Rep. Jim Hansen to take action and protect our environment.

By supporting Waxman's amendment, he will be working to keep our children safe from mercury and pesticides, clean up toxic waste sites and PCBs in our rivers, save the vistas in our national parks and allow us to continue programs to curb global warming. Our children deserve such basic protections.
