Westminster College, after a 21-year hiatus, will once again field an intercollegiate basketball program beginning in the 1999-2000 season. Former University of Utah player and assistant coach Tommy Connor has been named the head men's coach. The Parsons will also launch a women's program with a coach to be named this fall.

"In the coming year, Coach Connor will be responsible for leading Westminster College back into the intercollegiate basketball arena; building a team and working out a schedule for competition," said Phil Alletto, the school's vice president for enrollment and student development. In addition to his basketball related duties, Connor will be the director of intramural sports and recreation. He will take the lead in developing recreational opportunities for students that include everything from volleyball and billiards to rock climbing and mountain biking.

The Parsons now field men's soccer and women's volleyball teams. The basketball teams will play at the NAIA Division II level using non-scholarship athletes.
