HIGHLAND LOSES: The Highland High Rugby team dropped its first game in the World (High) Schools Championship Tournament in Harare, Zimbabwe, 29-20, against Prince Edward, the local host team. Highland was ahead for much of the game, but Price Edward, one of the pre-tournament favorites, came back for the victory. Highland plays again Thursday against the Welsh team, Ysgol Glantaf.


LAVER SUFFERS STROKE: Rod Laver, the only tennis player to win two Grand Slams, was in critical condition after suffering a stroke during an interview with ESPN in Los Angeles.

Laver, 59, was taken to UCLA Medical Center after being stricken Monday.
