Devear Carl Ross, 90, father, grandfather, uncle, died July 20, 1998 at a daughter's home in Midvale, Utah, of cancer.

Born November 22, 1907, to Stephen Montgomery and Margaret Lucretia Wardle Ross in Vernal, Utah. He attended schools in Tridell and Roosevelt. He married Martha Louisa Jackson September 12, 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had been married 59 years when she died in June 1988. As an active LDS member and High Priest, he served in many capacities, serving two Stake Missions. He loved sharing the gospel. He was a dairy and fruit farmer, and a carpenter, building homes until he worked for Kennecott/Garfield Smelter, retiring after 24 years. He loved hunting, fishing, sports, reading, genealogy, and the Jazz.He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Devean) Smart, Mrs. Marvin (Mern) Cook, Mrs. David (Elaine) Harman; 12 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, parents, five brothers, two sisters, and two granddaughters.

Funeral services Monday, July 27th, 11 a.m., at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State Street, Midvale, Utah, where friends and relatives may call 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, and one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy.
