Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, Waldemar Rees returned home to a loving Heavenly Father and wife, Olive on July 24, 1998, peacefully in his sleep.
Born September 4, 1914 in Murray, Utah to William Heber and Teresa Gertrude Klingenburg Rees. He married Olive Lenna Johnson November 15, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated their golden anniversary together after 50 loving years. She passed away March 18, 1992. He married Dorothy Pendleton Hansen on January 19, 1994. Waldemar was active in the LDS church serving in many positions including the Bishopric, Elders Quorum President, Sunday School President, MIA (Young Men's) President, High Council, Ordinance Worker in the Jordan River Temple, and many others. He and Olive served a full time mission in Arizona. He worked for D&RG Railroad for 10 years, for Kennecott Copper for 38 years, and served as Secretary of the local union for many years. After retiring, he and Olive spent time traveling between Arizona, California, and the Salt Lake Valley. He loved taking his family fishing. He enjoyed hunting, boating, camping, and playing checkers.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Larry (Lora) Rees, Kathy (Ray) Memmott, Sharon (Fred) Wolfe, all of Magna, Taunya (Norman) Hoeppner, of Kearns, and Daryl (Wendy) Rees, of Soldatna, Alaska; 35 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Mike (Vickie) Hansen, Dale Hansen, Paul (Teresa) Hansen, and Maxine (Lou) Herrera, all of the Salt Lake Valley; 16 step-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; and sisters, Gertrude (Randall) Russell, of St. George and Mary Sawyer, of Grants Pass, Oregon. Preceded in death by parents, three brothers, and one sister.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cottonwood Hospital, the South Valley Rehabilitation Center, and the Woodland Park Rehabilitation Center for their kind and loving care they offered him during his last months with us. We love him and will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 28, 1998 11 a.m. in the Pleasant Green 2nd Ward, 8739 West 3000 South. Friends may call Monday 7-9 p.m. at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna, and Tuesday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
