A fire races across Immitos mountain on the eastern edge of Athens, the Greek capital, Wednesday. The blaze killed three firefighters and a volunteer who tried to help them and sent towering plumes of smoke over the city. It appeared to have started in a pine forest on the mountain east of the city center and was fanned by winds that reached 47 mph. Wildfires are common during the hot, dry summers in Greece. But this season has been called one of the most devastating in decades.
