A disabled Vietnam veteran put his old survival skills to use, eating bugs and wallowing in mud when he was stranded for two days without food or his heart medication.
"Disabled veterans may be handicapped, but we're not dead," said John Rotan, 50, who lost more than half of his left leg and suffered bone and muscle damage to his right leg in a mortar blast in Vietnam.Rotan was driving his pickup in rural Gloucester County on July 9 when he crashed and ended up stuck floorboard-deep in a bog.
He worked to free his vehicle, all the while expecting a search party would find him. But by nightfall, no one had come. Pouring rain that night raised the water surrounding Rotan's truck to waist deep.
