The family of a man killed in a rollover crash of a Ranger pickup won a $144.8 million verdict against Ford Motor Co.
The parents of 19-year-old Dale Robinson claimed the truck's design was unstable and that Ford knew about the design flaw.Ford spokesman Jim Cain said the company would appeal Friday's verdict.
"It was clearly driver error," he said of the 1994 crash. "He was going 74 miles per hour. He ran off the road, traveled 500 feet down the median, cranked the wheel, got back on the road, got airborne and rolled over."
The jury awarded the family $24.8 million in compensatory damages and $120 million in punitive damages.
