A judge has denied bail to a mother and son being questioned in the disappearance of their wealthy Manhattan landlady who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Sante Kimes, 63, and her 23-year-old son Kenneth have been held on a bad-check warrant from Utah since July 5, the day 82-year-old Irene Silverman vanished.Judge Arlene Silverman denied bail Friday on the bad-check charge, saying the two were a flight risk. The judge - who is not related to Irene Silverman - said they were under investigation for "some rather serious crimes."
