Steven Michael Wintch, 36, died July 15, 1998 at his home in Culver City, California.

Steve was born July 1, 1962, in Salt Lake City, UT to Michael and Judith Wintch. While growing up, he moved often with his family, living in Utah, North Dakota, Colorado, and California, where he graduated in 1980 from Foothill High School in Sacramento. Steve was an avid reader and a gifted pianist, often rising at 5 a.m. to practice before school.

He served a mission for the LDS Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1982. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1987 with a BA in International Relations. His love of traveling and the arts took him to Vienna, Austria, in 1986, where he studied abroad for six months, visiting most of the countries of Western Europe. For the past 10 years Steve worked in Southern California, most recently at UCLA, where he was accepted into a Masters program in 1997. Steve enjoyed a passion for fine things, but his greatest treasure was his family and many dear friends.

Survived by his partner, Ryan Friedmann, Culver City; parents, Michael and Judith, Salt Lake City; two sisters and two brothers, Amy (Mark) Lewis, Woodland Hills, CA; Jill (Jeffrey) Wankier; Jeffrey (Amy); and Brent, all of Salt Lake City; two nieces and three nephews, whom he loved dearly. Preceded in death by his youngest brother, Scott.

Funeral services will be held in Southern California. Special thanks to the staff at UCLA Medical Center for their dedication and care.
